A partnership between UEA, mental health charity Mind and the Climate Psychology Alliance is supporting students with addressing climate anxiety.

Last year's research paper, Climate Anxiety in Children and Young People and their Beliefs about Government Responses to Climate Change: a Global Survey, by CPA members Caroline Hickman, Dr Liz Marks, and colleagues, demonstrated how significantly young people's mental health is being impacted by the climate and ecological crisis.
While such anxiety is an inevitable and even healthy response to the ecological threats we are facing, it is important to face and process these feelings as this brings them into awareness and prevents them from operating at an unconscious level - an important step in freeing us up to move forward in an empowered way.
To address climate anxiety amongst its students, UEA has launched a partnership with CPA and the mental health charity, Mind, as part of a project called sUStain.
CPA's part in this project will be to train Mind counsellors and UEA students to facilitate climate cafés. We will provide supervision and support in follow up sessions, as well as being involved in an awareness event in April 2022.
