Justice is not an add-on

Across all of CPA's events, training, and professional spaces, justice, anti-discrimination, and decolonial thinking are integral, not optional. We believe climate psychology has to reckon with the histories that brought us here: racism, colonialism, extraction, and the unequal distribution of harm that continues to shape who is most affected by the climate crisis.

This shows up in how we design our training, the frameworks we draw on, and the conversations we make space for.

This climate café is hosted by Low Carbon Oxford North and run by Oxfordshire Climate Cafés.

Climate café listening circle (run by Bristol Climate Café Collective)

A supportive group space where people can come together to share their feelings about the climate and ecological crises. Join us upstairs at the Steam Crane for a climate cafe listening circle - a space to share thoughts and feelings about the climate and nature crises. There are no special guests or speeches, and nobody gives advice. We just listen to each other and share our own experience. Sometimes it's hard to talk about these things because they can bring up a lot of difficult feelings - a climate cafe listening circle provides the opportunity to talk about these feelings and thoughts in a safe and supportive environment with two facilitators We meet once a month. It's free to attend and you can buy a drink at the bar to bring upstairs. Please arrive on time! This is in order to make the group a safe and comfortable space for talking about things that can feel difficult, so that we don't have interruptions once the session has begun. This climate cafe is offered in collaboration with the South Bristol Climate Hub.

Eco-Climate Circles Lewes (run by CPA members)

Perhaps you have begun to worry about what is happening to our climate and what this might mean for you and your family and friends, also for other species. The focus of discussion in an Eco-Climate Circle is participants’ immediate thoughts and feelings, rather than what we are doing (or not doing) about it. In a word we make space for the trouble, instead of merely wishing it away. It is a simple, friendly hospitable space where fears, uncertainties and other difficult feelings can be safely expressed and acknowledged. This allows for a conversation without pre-set themes or objectives in mind, other than how you are affected by the climate emergency and related biodiversity crises. Eco-Climate Circles are facilitated by Guy Gladstone and Jack Broadley of The Climate Psychology Alliance. For more information and to reserve places, call Guy on 01323 891 097.
