Simi Valecha Johnson

she/her
Psychotherapist, Arts Therapist

I am an HCPC-registered Integrative Arts Psychotherapist and yoga teacher, with a particular interest in the psychological and emotional impacts of the climate and ecological crisis. I completed a Certificate in Climate Psychology with the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), and my work is informed by climate psychology, trauma-informed practice and an understanding of how our individual wellbeing is connected to the wider social and ecological systems in which we live.
I offer a space for people experiencing climate-related distress, including anxiety, grief, anger, helplessness, overwhelm and questions around meaning, responsibility and how to live in a changing world. My approach is non-pathologising: I understand many climate emotions as understandable responses to the realities we are witnessing rather than symptoms that simply need to be removed or managed.
I am particularly interested in how we can remain emotionally engaged with difficult realities without becoming overwhelmed by them, and how psychological understanding, creativity and embodied practices can support this.
My wider professional work includes therapy and coaching around life transitions, with specialist training in CBT for Menopause and an interest in the psychological impact of perimenopause and menopause. I am also trained in Yoga Nidra and trauma-sensitive yoga, and draw on nervous-system-informed and embodied approaches where appropriate.

Issues I can help with

Eco-anxiety, climate grief, overwhelm, fear for the future, helplessness, burnout, moral distress, isolation, and questions around meaning and how to live with the climate crisis.

My way of working

Warm, compassionate, thoughtful and reflective, while also grounded, direct and straight-talking. Integrative, relational and trauma-informed, with a person-centred and creative approach.
