Heather Bolton

she/her
Psychotherapist

I am a qualified and registered psychotherapist with 25 years of experience in counselling and psychotherapy practice.
Currently I have a private practice in North Wales where I either work from a cabin in a piece of beautiful ancient woodland or online. In the past I have worked with an addictions agency and for the mental health charity Mind.
I have also trained as a mindfulness teacher with Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University. I worked as a mindfulness teacher alongside my psychotherapy work for many years.
I was an activist with Extinction Rebellion (XR)for some years and believe I understand the potential for despair, anger and overwhelm that can come alongside that commitment. As part of my role in XR I organised workshops to support activists emotional health. I now help coordinate a local umbrella climate and ecological crisis campaign group, working on local and national campaigns.
Recently I have run climate cafés, Work that Reconnects workshops and mindfulness days in local woods.
I have received training from CPA in running climate cafes and have also undertaken the Climate Aware Practitioner training with the CPA.
Over the past few years of volunteering as a therapeutic support practitioner with the CPA, I have worked with professionals who work in the climate and nature field, activists, and members of the general public who are struggling with their response to the polycrisis.

Issues I can help with

I can support you with difficult emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, grief, despair, feelings of isolation in relation to the climate/ nature/ polycrisis.
I can work with Activist overwhelm and burnout.
I can offer support with the emotional impact of working within in the environmental sector.

My way of working

I am a Gestalt therapist so work relationally and holistically ( ie. with thinking processes, emotions and body experience). If helpful I may introduce some simple mindfulness practices to support you.
My aim is to provide a compassionate container where we can together come to understand your present experience. We can then identify how best to respond to your situation and what next steps may be helpful.

Practitioners on the CPA One-to-one Support Directory offer up to three free sessions to anyone aged 18 or over experiencing eco-related distress. CPA is not a counselling service and is not financially involved with individual practitioners. We simply connect people seeking support with climate-aware professionals.
