“Why is Climate Change so Toxic to (English Speaking) Conservatives?”

George Marshall gave the Members Day plenty of zip in his keynote presentation. Despite the opening caveat that his background contains no qualifications beginning with “Psy”, he gave us plenty to think about. The copious material he shared included an extract from one Maggie Thatcher’s speeches, to illustrate his point that there is nothing irreconcilable between a Conservative zeitgeist and Climate Change awareness. We hope to post a version of George’s material and a link to that speech. The pace and intensity of his talk was offset by Rosemary Randall’s reflections, which took us a little deeper into the complexity of changes in the psycho-political landscape in recent decades.

It was good to see several new faces along with established CPA members. Those present included Louise and Eva from Fourthland.

Sally Weintrobe’s thinking on The Culture of Uncare has been one of CPA’s major theme’s during the past year. In the context of the Pope’s forthcoming encyclical, Sally gave a 10-minute interview this week on Radio Open Source, sharing via Skype a platform with Naomi Oreskes and Dorothy Boorse. It’s all worth hearing, but Sally’s interview starts about 12 ½ minutes in.

On 24rd October CPA and the Association for Psychosocial Studies will be presenting a one day seminar with research findings on human engagement with climate change. It will be a rich selection of material, from CPA members and other contributors. We will be circulating final details shortly. (Subsequent report on event)

Finally COMING SOON! CPA’s brand new, more visitor friendly, more navigable, less wordy website. Progress in designing this is well under way.
