Kay Trainor
Hello I’m a UKCP accredited psychotherapist with a background in psychodynamics and in trauma-informed approaches such as EMDR and Parts work (which draws on Internal Family Systems).
I am also a climate activist involved in tree preservation (www.noticethistree.org). I co founded a Deep Adaptation circle (https://www.deepadaptation.info) and have facilitated many climate cafes, in different settings, where people affected by the climate and ecological crises get to share their concerns.
At a recent Climate Psychology Alliance members day I was in a break out group with an activist whose pre occupation was how to link the many activists she knows who are suffering from anxiety and stress with therapists who might be able to offer help. I know this conversation influenced me and is behind my volunteering to offer these free sessions to activists and to anyone else affected by the climate and ecological crises.
How I imagine I might be able to support you is first by accepting that anxiety in the face of the climate crisis is understandable, normal, essential even. I work with an approach called Parts work (T.I.S.T. – Dr Janina Fisher). How I think the Parts work might be useful is by helping you understand which of your internal 'parts' may be being triggered/overwhelmed by the situation we are in and if they can be helped to understand that, whilst the situation is very real, it need not overwhelm completely (as perhaps earlier trauma did) and that we do have some agency - and using it can bring some relief, or acceptance and help with overwhelm.
Contact me initially by email kaytrainor84@icloud.com and we can arrange to speak.
