Online counselling & psychotherapy

with Susan (she/her)

Holistic Talking Therapy

I offer single and ongoing counselling sessions online using Zoom. My particular experience is working with the effects of childhood adversity and complex trauma.

Complex trauma is sometimes known as developmental trauma when related to early childhood abuse (physical, emotional, sexual and neglect). Complex trauma is recognised as a response to numerous adverse experiences over time rather than a single event. It can be intergenerational and out of awareness.

If you are stressed, suffering, feeling angry and helpless without knowing where your mood comes from, counselling or psychotherapy can assist you to make sense of yourself and extend your range of choices.

If you have any questions or would like to try an initial session, please email me on counsellorsusan@outlook.com to arrange a time and discuss the fees.

Session duration: 50 minutes.

Perspective

I am an integrative counsellor with an Adlerian qualification in Individual Psychology.

Affects of adversity can lead to difficult feelings and costly coping strategies.

My aim is to empower and enable change through your personal learning and growth by discovering together the unique personal beliefs and needs that your choices rest on.

I believe that approaching a personal therapist is a courageous first step, taking responsibility for your own self care.

The quality of time and space set aside for you should create a place where you feel safe and able to establish a working alliance in partnership with your counsellor.

Expectations

You will have a known time and place where there is the opportunity for you to be the focus of your learning.

I will work cooperatively and encouragingly alongside you to listen to your story, to explore and identify your personal goals.

Why WorldYard?

WorldYard is about play and safety. We all live in many different worlds, and play in many different worlds.

The learning that we do in therapy will be like play, not work. Play is a means to self-discovery, self-expression, autonomy, adventure and imagination. It asks for commitment. When we engage in play, it needs to be safe. This is why we have a yard - the yard is a safe concept. It is a place of purpose with clear, protective boundaries.

Here, you can choose to play and explore in different worlds whilst being safe within the security of the yard. The safety provides opportunities to explore in a different way, and to investigate your own boundaries. People and ideas can be invited into our yard. You can learn about yourself and your own relationships within the yard and within your worlds, making personal discoveries.

WorldYard is also a tribute to Margaret Lowenfeld who introduced specific use of a sand tray in play therapy.

About WorldYard

I am an elder and have been working with clients since 2018.

People have always been central in my rich and varied work experience though I don’t differentiate or identify myself as a helper any more than anyone else and the work that they are doing. All professions and services aim to provide assistance and benefit.

I chose to be a counsellor in order to do something that had paricular meaning to me and that I valued. I have always been very curious about people's behaviour. It has raised many questions as I have tried to make sense of life. I have found being a cousellor fits my nature and also my belief that all lives matter.

I work from a position of holism and pluralism. Simply put that means the sum is more than the total of the parts and every individual voice counts.

Therapy suggests a remedy. There aren't always easy remedies for the troubles that bring people to therapy. The remedies found at WorldYard relate to discovery and recovery, discovering where home is and a way to bring oneself home.

WorldYard a place of self recovery - all emotions, feelings, moods, thoughts and behaviours are interrelated and all work to a protective purpose. Creativity, work, play (safe work), talking (using and hearing your own voice) in the presence of a witness provides and harnesses the potential for change through growth. In WorldYard you are not alone.

WorldYard is about you and me, and the creative space of possibilities emerging from the interactions of our encounter.

The choice is yours with WorldYard - you can tailor therapy to suit you. This can be worked out together at our initial meeting or you can ask for a single session.
